Event Details:
Venture 13 is hosting a FRESH FOOD MAPATHON on March 2, 2019 from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded for the following three categories:
1) Best use of digital technology for surveying local needs through crowdsourcing
2) Best use of digital technology for spatial analysis of food deserts in the community
3) Best use of digital technology for the promotion of healthy eating in the community
Challenge: Teams will compete to design a solution to improve access to local fresh food. Bonus points will be awarded for solutions that promote healthy eating and active lifestyles.
Purpose: Healthy eating and active living are key components of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The primary purpose of this mapathon is to showcase:
The relevant information needed for sustainable development (SDG 12.8)
The relationship between nutritious food and healthy eating habits (SDG 2.1)
The knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development (SDG 4.7)
Registration is FREE and open to anyone! The primary focus is on youth and adults enrolled in secondary and post-secondary education and training.
Bring your own mobile device and permission form if under 18 years old. Free wifi and a bank of 12 laptops will be available for teams to use for accessing mapping tools and resources.
